It???s not in the cards: PunchMe offers a loyalty program for the digital age

Media_httpfarm9static_bkeeh

Loyalty programs have been around for quite some time. It all started with the paper or plastic loyalty cards a merchant would punch or stamp every time a customer came in to make a purchase, which the customer could then redeem for a free or discounted item, or some other special offer. One problem with that method was that the cards got lost very easily, and every time customers replaced their card, they would have to start the process all over again. Also, the merchant wouldn’t be able to easily collect data on their customers.

So how can merchants solve these issues? I caught up with Marc Kremer founder of PunchMe, a new loyalty program that helps consumers earn rewards at their favorite places and helps merchants easily offer fun and exciting rewards to customers.

Yesterday, Instagram launched Instagram badges, a tool that will help you link to and promote your Instagram web profile. Add them to your personal blog, brand website, or campaign promotions to direct new followers to your Instagram web profile and encourage others to discover and engage with your Instagram content.

Instagram badges are available in a range of sizes and can be easily added to your website, blog or anywhere that you want to link to your Instagram web profile. There are two ways to access Instagram badges:

  • Navigate to your Instagram web profile page. Click on your username to access the drop down menu and choose “Badges”
  • Visit instagram.com/accounts/badges

To create a badge for your account, make sure you are logged into the account you’d like to link to. Select the badge you’d like to use, then just copy the code and paste it into your site.

Pinterest Launches Business Pages and New Tools for Businesses

2012111301

Pinterest wants to help more businesses provide great content on Pinterest and make it easy to pin from their websites. Today, They’re taking a first step towards that goal with some free tools and resources.

New business terms

They now have two sets of terms—one for people and one for businesses. The business terms help guide businesses on how to use Pinterest. They also enable Pinterest to separate the provisions meant for businesses from those meant for regular people. As a result, they updated their user terms to be half as long. They also took the opportunity to simplify the language as much as possible. Unfortunately, terms of use are one of those documents that requires a certain amount of legalese, so They’ve offered “translations” of these sections, too.

Getting to know businesses better

Whether you’re a publication, brand, designer, blogger, retailer, online merchant, non-profit organization, institution, or local business, They’d like to get to know you better so that they can provide the right tools and support to help you inspire people on Pinterest. If your organization is new to Pinterest, sign up on Pinterest for a business account. Existing accounts on Pinterest can be easily converted by following the steps on the business site.

Signing up on their business site allows you to specify your business name (instead of first name and last name) and go through an optimized new user flow to help you:

  • Verify your website. The verification badge helps people identify high-quality sources of content and more easily find the business they want in search results.
  • Add new buttons and widgets. Integrate the Pin It button, Follow button, Profile widget, or Board widget to get more engagement from pinners and traffic back your site.
  • Access to upcoming features. Receive updates on future products and services that will provide more powerful ways of reaching and understanding your audience on Pinterest.

New Resources: Case Studies, What Works, and more

The Pinterest community is unique and they want to help businesses interact with people the right way. That’s why they’ve also published new case studies, best practices, and guides on the business site that can show you great ways to use Pinterest to inspire people.

  • Case Studies. Jetsetter, Allrecipes, Etsy, Organized Interiors, and Petplan Insurance share metrics and describe how they successfully used Pinterest to increase customer reach, drive traffic to their sites, and engage their strongest advocates.
  • What Works. We published a set of best practices with several examples for you to follow.
  • Guides and Documentation. Check out new guides and documentation for the Pin It and Follow buttons and how to use the Pinterest brand in marketing materials.

Repost: Yelp Menus: Connecting People with Great Local Food Porn

Yelp Menus: Connecting People with Great Local Food Porn

Yelp has rolled out a new Menus feature. They’ve combed the site to compile visual menus incorporating Yelp reviews and user-uploaded food pictures. Now you can not only read about that decadent chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake swimming in a pool of hot fudge, you can see real users’ photos of said gut-busting dessert from every angle right alongside the menu item.

From the business page on the website, the mobile site or your Yelp App, look for the “Explore the Menu” link to see the dedicated menu page. Specifics on menu items, like description and price, will match up with Yelp’s user generated photos and reviews mentioning that particular dish. Feeling indecisive? Pick something with the “popular” tag – items Yelpers can’t stop talking about – and you’re guaranteed a good meal.

Access Yelp Menus on yelp.com, m.yelp.com and the Yelp mobile app.
