BUZZ: New Yelp Feature Takes Consumers from Browsing to Buying

Consumers come to Yelp ready to make a spending decision and they rely on Yelp’s wealth of valuable content to find a local business to fit their needs. Today we’re introducing a new feature for business owners, designed to further close the loop between discovering a business on Yelp and making a purchase at that business. Yelp’s new Call to Action feature allows business owners to promote a desired transaction of their choosing directly on their Yelp business listing.

According to a recent BCG study, advertisers on Yelp report seeing an average of $23,000 in annual revenue from the site. Yelp’s Call to Action feature, available now to Yelp advertisers, is designed to increase the revenue potential Yelp provides to business owners, with the ability to promote a specific action they’d like consumers to take. The Call to Action feature will take consumers seamlessly from a business’ Yelp listing to the the business’ own website to complete the transaction — be it scheduling an appointment, printing a coupon, buying tickets to see ‘N Sync (still holding out hope for a reunion tour!), or any other action a business wants to promote.

Ticketmaster, the global leader in event ticketing and one of the world’s top five e-Commerce businesses, was one of the first companies to launch with Yelp’s Call to Action pilot program. By implementing the feature on Yelp listings for over 2,000 of its live entertainment venues across the US and Canada, consumers are taken from a venue’s listing directly to the Ticketmaster site where they can buy tickets to upcoming events. As Ticketmaster’s President of North America, Jared Smith, puts it, “Yelp is a great platform that many of our clients use to help their fans discover and gather information about live events. We’re excited to have developed a strategic partnership with Yelp to help our clients capture this demand and make the event discovery and ticket buying process easier for Yelp’s 102 million monthly unique visitors*.”

YELP CALL TO ACTION

The Call to Action feature will work on both desktop and mobile, reaching Yelp users through all avenues, including the approximately 10 million monthly unique mobile devices using the app.

BUZZ: R.I.P Vine?

Most social networks gain popularity when used by celebrities, but what happens when those same celebrity turns on you? This is the case with the new social network Vine. Celebrities such as Diddy, Kevin Hart and many others are turning their back on Vine to stay on Instagram.

Last week, Facebook took a stab at its Twitter rivals by launching video on Instagram. Now, Instagram users will be able to share 15-second videos via the social network. Users will have quite a few customization options for videos as well, including camera stabilization, custom still video frames, and very basic video editing capabilities. Though there are quite a few cool product features with videos, Instagram continues to be a simple way to “capture and share the world’s moments.”

The new feature, called Video on Instagram, puts Facebook in direct competition with rival Twitter., whose similar Vine app has grown rapidly in recent months.

Over the past two and a half years, Instagram has become a community where you can capture and share the world’s moments simply and beautifully. Some moments, however, need more than a static image to come to life. Until now these stories have been missing from Instagram.

Video on Instagram brings you another way to share your stories. When you go to take a photo on Instagram, you’ll now see a movie camera icon. Tap it to enter video mode, where you can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera.

Video on Instagram

You’ll also find that they’ve added thirteen filters built specifically for video so you can keep sharing beautiful content on Instagram. When you post a video, you’ll also be able to select your favorite scene from what you’ve recorded as your cover image so your videos are beautiful even when they’re not playing.

We’re excited to see what the community will bring to video, whether it’s your local cafe showing you just how they made your latte art this morning.

So what does this mean for your content? Nothing’s different from photos. Only the people who you let see your photos will be able to see your videos. And as with photos, you own your videos.

BUZZ: Facebook launches photo comments for Business Page

Facebook also introduced the ability to comment with photos. Now, users will find a small, grey camera icon in the right-hand side of the commenting field. By clicking it, users can attach a photo and include accompanying text if they want.

Although this new feature is a small addition to the massive social network’s suite of features, it makes Facebook even more “meme-friendly,” since it will be so much easier to share photos with friends. Brands and marketers should try getting creative with photo replies as a way to engage with their fans — who knows, maybe these photo replies will help their content go viral! BUZZ: Facebook Rolls Out New Analytics For Business Page

Facebook started rolling out updates to the Page Insights tool and inviting a select group of Page admins to participate in this preview. These global changes include improvements to the way we organize and report fundamental metrics:

Making our metrics clear and simple
People Talking About This (PTAT)
We heard from many Page admins that they want more insight into the actions that make up PTAT. For instance, how people’s liking their business Page differs from people’s interacting with their posts. For this reason, we’re breaking out PTAT into elements that will now be reported separately as Page Likes, People Engaged (the number of unique people who have clicked on, liked, commented on, or shared your posts), Page tags and mentions, Page checkins, and other interactions on a Page. PTAT as a combined metric will still be available for Page admins not participating in the new Insights preview.
Virality
We also heard that the virality metric in Page Insights is often used as a benchmark for Page post quality. However, this metric doesn’t include clicks in its measurement, which are a strong indicator of positive post engagement and a key piece in providing marketers with metrics around overall post quality. So moving forward, we’re including clicks in this metric and renaming ‘virality’ to ‘engagement rate’ to be clearer in our definition.
Helping marketers create and publish better content
Facebook News Feed rewards quality posts with greater reach. One major consideration in gauging post quality is the relationship between positive interactions (likes, comments, shares and clicks) and negative interactions (hide post, hide all posts, report as spam, unlike page). Historically, Page Insights has reported on posts’ performance, reach, and engagement in three distinct places. In the new Page Insights, we aggregate all these metrics into a post-specific score card, so marketers can evaluate positive and negative metrics together. This will help Page admins better identify content people interact with, produce more of it, and enjoy increased reach and impact on Facebook.
Facebook New Insights
Providing more insights about the people that interact with your Page content
Before, Page Insights showed you the demographic breakdown (age, gender, country, city and language) of who you reached. Now, updated Page insights allows you to see not only who you’ve reached – but also who you’ve engaged. This helps Page admins identify what content is resonating with what audiences, to better inform their Page content and strategy.

BUZZ: Introducing Hashtags on Facebook

Introducing Hashtags on Facebook
Starting today, hashtags will be clickable on Facebook. Similar to other services like Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, or Pinterest, hashtags on Facebook allow you to add context to a post or indicate that it is part of a larger discussion. When you click on a hashtag in Facebook, you’ll see a feed of what other people and Pages are saying about that event or topic.

#facebook

Now you can:
• Search for a specific hashtag from your search bar. For example, #NBAFinals.
• Click on hashtags that originate on other services, such as Instagram.
• Compose posts directly from the hashtag feed and search results.

As always, you control the audience for your posts, including those with hashtags.
Hashtags are just the first step to help people more easily discover what others are saying about a specific topic and participate in public conversations. Facebook will continue to roll out more features in the coming weeks and months, including trending hashtags and deeper insights, that help people discover more of the world’s conversations.
